O Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo é um pequeno paraíso, situado em frente à povoação de Vila Franca do Campo, a cerca de 1 km da costa, este local é o resultado da cratera de um antigo vulcão submerso e é uma das principais atracções turísticas da ilha de São Miguel, especialmente desde que aqui se realizou uma das etapas do Red Bull Cliff Diving – o campeonato mundial de mergulho em penhascos.
Classificado como Reserva Natural, tem as paredes da sua cratera revestidas por uma vegetação endémica, enquanto no seu interior existe uma piscina natural com uma forma quase perfeitamente circular, que comunica com o mar por uma estreita passagem. Esta abertura é designada por Boquete e está voltada a Norte, isto é na direcção da costa da ilha, o que impede a entrada da agitação marítima para o interior. As suas águas cristalinas e a pequena, mas encantadora praia, são excelentes para a prática de natação e mergulho.

The islet of Vila Franca do Campo is a small paradise.
Situated opposite the town of Vila Franca do Campo, about 1km from the coast, the islet is a result of the crater of an ancient submerged volcano, and is one of São Miguel’s main tourist attractions, particularly since an event in the Red Bull Cliff Diving world championship was held here.
Classified as a Nature Reserve, the walls of its crater are lined by endemic vegetation, while inside there is an almost perfectly circular natural lake, which is linked to the sea by a narrow channel. This opening is called Boquete and faces north, i.e. towards the coast of São Miguel, which prevents the entry of waves from the sea. Its crystal clear waters and the small but lovely beach, are excellent for swimming and diving.
