To say that some people are angered by the holiday hours is an understatement.

Calling the company everything from greedy to morally bankrupt, numerous individuals took to social media to chastise the store for keeping its employees from sharing Thanksgiving dinner with their families.

One poster blamed the retail chain for the destruction of families.

Another wished financial ruin on the retail chain because of its plan to be open.

Many expressed they were planning to boycott the store for the holidays and beyond.

A spokeswoman for Kmart said that the decision to extend the hours in the first place was a result of consumer requests.

Numerous people reportedly asked the retailer to provide more flexible hours for in-store holiday shopping.

The company said that staffing will be done on as much of a volunteer basis as possible. Seasonal employees are also being recruited to fill the spots.

The retailer said they felt giving employees an opportunity to earn extra money for the holidays was a good thing.
