I just found my high-energy blast of indie rock for the day. Featuring the nun of my Halloween dreams, no less. It’s “Evil Fire” from My Secret Island’s self-titled album. It’s intense, hard-driving Gothic rock n roll. If this band is new to you, your ears are in for a surprise. Mark van Merm is the bandleader, vocalist, guitarist, and devil incarnate. This cut combines vocals a bit like Geddy Lee (Rush, though with a true Goth vibe), awsome guitar riffs, blasting bass, and powerful drums. A bit retro with a touch of punk. It’s an hellacious bad sound, not a rehash of the usual. Well written and thoroughly enjoyable, it kept me hooked all the way through, and it took a while to get this blazing inferno out of my head.

The well-matched video was produced and directed by Annie Bertram. Not just a filmed performance, this is a some true music-video storytelling and great camera work with good acting and a knack for the sensual. It features the beautiful and super-hot Jenny “Apple Doll” Haufe playing a black-haired nun. She’s the girl in Blutengel’s music video “Reich mir die Hand.”

What could be more Goth than a castle? Filming at the fantastic “Schloss Püchau” near Leipzig, Germany provided a ready-made realistic Gothic background. Add the devil, wine, and mix well and you get a trashy erotic trip into the dark arts. Some may think the video a little cheesy or even offensive, but it’s just a bit of fun and great rock, mastering an oddly sexy vibe. Thanks to Ghostwriter
