Donna G Fowler - T’was The Night Before My Birthday (I Think)

T’was the night before my birthday br And all through the house br No one was stirring br Not even my pet mouse br br All my presents were hid br Somewhere inside of there br And I couldn’t find any of them br I was surely in despair br br I searched high and low br And nothing could I find br Where oh where were they hiding br I think I must be blind br br I searched in the pantry br Behind all the canned stuff br Maybe my family is lying to me br Maybe it’s all a bluff br br Then into the bedroom I went br Creeping mighty slow br I even looked under the mattress br As the excitement began to grow br br But still there was nothing br And I was beginning to tire br Maybe this is my imagination br And I’ll wake up and be the buyer br br One more time around the house br My dancing feet would take me br Hurry, hurry the days almost here br Oh, my gosh it’s a Christmas tree br br Hey wait a minute this can’t be right br I thought it was my birthday br Oh my gosh how silly of me br I must be old and gray br br For tis the season to be jolly br And you know what that means br Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night br Sometimes a poem is not what it seems.
