Iohannes Silvaticus - A Thousand Words

Iohannes Silvaticus - A Thousand Words

If every word was like a feather, br Then like feathers pile together br To comfort your great fall, br A thousand words I’d write tonight; br To make a bed so soft br That would put you in warm embrace br After your fall through great abyss. br br And with another thousand words I’d paint br A ladder that would let me ascend the heavens: br Pluck a star from the shattered sky br To mend your broken heart; br Catch a lonely cloud br To wipe the gleaming pearl br From your twinkling eyes. br br But from such great expanse, br Of hearts and distance most alike, br All I have are words. br Yet I pray, my True, br These words may suffice br To give you sweet relief br And in soft slumbers give you peace.
