Thomas Hood - The World is with Me

Thomas Hood - The World is with Me

The world is with me, and its many cares, br Its woes--its wants--the anxious hopes and fears br That wait on all terrestrial affairs-- br The shades of former and of future years-- br Forboding fancies and prophetic tears, br Quelling a spirit that was once elate. br Heavens! what a wilderness the world appears, br Where youth, and mirth, and health are out of date; br But no--a laugh of innocence and joy br Resounds, like music of the fairy race, br And, gladly turning from the world's annoy, br I gaze upon a little radiant face, br And bless, internally, the merry boy br Who "makes a son-shine in a shady place.
