Eugene Field - Googly-go0

Eugene Field - Googly-go0

Of mornings, bright and early, br When the lark is on the wing br And the robin in the maple br Hops from her nest to sing, br From yonder cheery chamber br Cometh a mellow coo - br 'T is the sweet, persuasive treble br Of my little Googly-Goo! br br The sunbeams hear his music, br And they seek his little bed, br And they dance their prettiest dances br Round his golden curly head: br Schottisches, galops, minuets, br Gavottes and waltzes, too, br Dance they unto the music br Of my googling Googly-Goo. br br My heart - my heart it leapeth br To hear that treble tone; br What music like thy music, br My darling and mine own! br And patiently - yes, cheerfully br I toil the long day through - br My labor seemeth lightened br By the song of Googly-Goo! br br I may not see his antics, br Nor kiss his dimpled cheek: br I may not smooth the tresses br The sunbeams love to seek; br It mattereth not - the echo br Of his sweet, persuasive coo br Recurreth to remind me br Of my little Googly-Goo.
