William Percy French - Celestial Painting (Sunset at Renvyle)

When painters leave this world, we grieve br For the hand that will work no more, br But who can say that they rest alway br On that still celestial shore? br No! No! they choose from the rainbow hues, br And winging from Paradise, br They come to paint, now bold now faint, br The tones of our sunset skies. br When I see them there I can almost swear br That grey is from Whistler's brain! br That crimson flush was Turner's brush! br And the gold is Claude Lorraine.
