Herbert Nehrlich - Ice Flowers

Herbert Nehrlich - Ice Flowers

His mother had been right. br The glass on all the windows br transformed itself to shapes br of the most beautiful of flowers, br the roses of Old Man Winter. br br He touched his nose to feel br and saw the flowers fade br only returning with his patience. br There was a true abundance br of glowing heat, dressed up br as frost to redden little cheeks br and curious noses in a flash. br br He quickly turned himself br into a locomotive, blowing steam br across the valleys of his mouth br where promises of tiny teeth br rose up to add assistance. br br As all good thoughts reward br the snowflakes tumbled down br only behind the circle of warm air br that one small boy had shared br first with himself and then, br because of love, his mother.
