Pete Crowther - At Four O'Clock This Afternoon

Pete Crowther - At Four O'Clock This Afternoon

There’s a V-shaped gap where the tall hedge parts br By the garden gate and it frames a view br Of a sycamore tree with a field beyond. br In summer there’d be a herd of cows br But it’s empty now — just a bare-branched tree br And the high green bank of an estuary. br At four o’clock this afternoon br Behind the tree and above the bank br I saw the sun about to set br Orange-red in a plain grey sky. br The world for a moment then was just br A setting sun, a leafless tree, br A field, a river bank, and me.
