Gary Witt - A Most Delicious Strawberry

Gary Witt - A Most Delicious Strawberry

You have your game-face on again; br The don’t-mess-with-me face that comes br With its own combative attitude. br Not pleased with being pleased, br You seem incapable of a smile; br Not a cheek-aching, ab-cramping, br Incontinent belly-laugh, br But something as simple as a smile. br br Can you scowl in the presence br Of a four year old wearing br A Halloween costume br With cape? br Can you frown under the patient, br Steady, brown-eyed stare of a br Labrador coveting br Your plate? br br Have you forgotten how to savor br The simple strawberry? br br The story goes, a man in India, br While walking through the woods, br Encountered a tiger. br Well, being a wise man, br And quite astute, br He precipitously turned br And fled. br The tiger, with his own degree br Of wisdom and perspicacity, br And with a feline sense of humor, br Gave chase, br Until the man came to a cliff and jumped; br No blink, no pause, just a leap, br And falling, grabbed onto a sapling. br Hanging there, feet dangling br (Like a participle) br With one fist wrapped br Around the most paltry of sprigs, br The man spotted a strawberry br Growing nearby br Which he immediately picked br And ate. br It was a most delicious strawberry.
