David Keig - Last Man Standing

David Keig - Last Man Standing

My eldest is in China br On the way to the Li Jiang br She’s seen the Terracotta Warriors br In a place that called Xian. br br My youngest, she’s in Sydney town br Her love in life is reading books br She has a sense of fantasy br And red curled Irish looks. br br Me? I am in Pearl Beach br For others paradise br But I am on my own up here br And lead a damaged life. br br I suffer from depression br And that’s very clear to see br For though the sun is shining high br It looks so dark to me. br br I have many close that hold me br I am lucky in that way br They love me just for me being me br And don’t seem go away. br br But the track of time’s unwinding br Each year, past friends are lost br Sometimes illness, now a suicide br And ‘gainst their names I put a cross. br br For I am the last man standing br I’m like those soldiers made of clay br I am the last man standing br I am not going to go away. br br I am the last man standing br For I have a hand of cards br That others wish that they did have br But being the last’s becoming hard. br br For my eldest is in China br My youngest still in Sydney town br Although they are away from me br My heart is with them now. br br Look! My greyness, it is passing br Now I can see the sun! br I know they love me for being me br Not for what I have not done. br br For this thing called life is fragile br But it has a strength within br Not brittle like those warriors br But as fine as porcelain.
