Twitter suspends over 70 million fake accounts. The aim is to reduce the flow of misinformation on the platform. The suspension happened during the month of May and June. The shutting down of accounts is up in July as well. Shares of Twitter fell marginally to $46.50 on 6th July. A fake account is spotted, when it fails to verify to phone numbers. Those accounts which pass are reinstated. As per the Twitter-blog, spam reports dropped from an average 25,000 per day in March, to 17,000 in May. In May 2018, Twitter’s system identified and challenged more than 9.9 million potentially spammy or automated accounts per week. That’s up from 6.4 million in December 2017, and 3.2 million in September.
