The 2020 Tokyo Olympics got off to a strong start for Great Britain with impressive medal hauls and a series of memorable early displays.

Britain won more medals across a wider number of sports than ever before at the Tokyo Olympics, beating China, Russia and hosts Japan.

Team GB won 65 medals across 23 events as defined by the official Olympics website, a performance that improves on the breadth of events in which it competed successfully at the Rio games, where it won 67 medals but across only 19 events.

But the Games were held without the usual thousands of spectators because of the pandemic and against much concern from the Japanese population about Covid cases rising.

Watch the video to hear from three sport journalists from The Telegraph who were out in Japan, Thom Gibbs, Pippa Field and Ben Bloom, as they consider whether the 2020 Olympics were worth it in the end.
