Pifwa wants mangrove forests in Penang to be gazetted as forest reserves

The Penang Inshore Fishermen Welfare Association (Pifwa) has called out for help to protect the remaining mangrove forests after over 100ha of mangrove forests in the state were destroyed to pave the way for development.

Pifwa president Ilias Shafie urged the authorities to preserve the remaining tracts of mangroves by gazetting them as protected forest reserves.
