Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage brought the action and the drama - and behind the scenes was just as intense as what we see in the final cut. Andy Serkis was extremely involved as a director - he sometimes even did Venom lines and performed what he wanted Tom Hardy to do in the scenes. When he wanted to be more subtle, the director would actually speak into a mic that went directly into Hardy’s earbuds while he was performing live!
While Hardy does tons of his own stunts, after having two serious knee surgeries, the actor stepped aside and let his stunt doubles take over every now and then. Before filming, Jacob Tomuri would go so far as to check on Hardy’s weight so he could do his best to match it, ensuring they would look similar enough.
The devil is in the details and the team behind Venom: Let There Be Carnage didn’t overlook a thing. Costume colours that would help set up images that Venom could come to life and Woody Harrelson received an upgraded wig which thankfully, looks much better than the first one. Harrelson isn’t the only one that got an upgrade though - Hardy got a new Ducati motorcycle!
Filming the rave party scene was a major task because of the sheer scale of it all - there were a whopping six hundred and fifty extras on set. Combine that with loud music, bright lets and giant puppets - this set was a total party.
As for how Hardy brought such a stellar performance talking to himself? The secret was listening to dialogue through earbuds in real time on set!
