Modem Connection Speeds

Modem Connection Speeds

br br Applegeek, a member of the LockerGnome community, asks: "What Internet service was available at your time?"br br What was Internet service like before the days of broadband? 56k dial-up connections are blazingly fast in comparison to what was available during the early 90s. br br One very popular modem speed that existed for quite a long while is 2400 baud. To compare, a 2400 baud modem was capable of speeds up to 14,400 bps (bits per second). A 56k modem is capable of speeds of up to 203,200 bps. A modern broadband modem running at 10 megabits per second breaks down to roughly 10,485,760 bits of data every second. To say we've come a long way in data transfer speeds in the last 20 years would be an understatement.
