A 76-year-old man surnamed Yeh was attacked by a knife-wielding thief Wednesday night. One particular knife wound on his neck is 7 inches long. The man was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

According to authorities, Mr. Yeh is the uncle of the owner of a currency exchange store in Sham Shui Po district in Hong Kong, and often closes the shop for her at the end of the day.

After work, Mr. Yeh would usually head to the bus stop near Maple Street to catch the bus home. The thief might have mistaken Mr. Yeh for the owner of the store and believed that he carries large sums of cash on him each day after work.

At around 7 p.m. last night, as Mr. Yeh neared the bus stop, a single South Asian man came up behind Mr. Yeh and took him into a small alley to rob him. However, Mr. Yeh escaped, but the perpetrator slashed his throat with a knife as he slipped away. Mr. Yeh ran for 40 meters before the perp caught up to him and slashed him with the knife on his arms and back.

According to police investigation, the perpetrator took the bag which contained a key to the currency exchange store and a cellphone. However, the $1300 USD cash Mr. Yeh had on him was not taken.

Passersby saw Mr. Yeh lying on the ground and called the police. Authorities staked out the area but were not able to find the attacker.
