Whoever said ‘cats have 9 lives’ certainly wasn’t kidding. One feline in particular has shown a shocking will to survive and was recently reunited with his family three long years after going missing.

The male kitty named Suika lived a happy life with his owners, Kazuko and Takeo Yamagishi in Japan back in 2011. But on March 11 of that year, disaster struck.

That was when the devastating tsunami broke through the area. Fortunately, the Yamagishi home wasn't affected, but Suika couldn’t be found anywhere. The family searched for three months and eventually gave up hope.

They suspected their beloved cat had perished somewhere resulting from the tsunami that wreaked havoc on so many lives. Little did they know their pet was alive and well.

On April 10th of this year, a Good Samaritan found Suika resting in a local forest. The cat was taken to a health center and it was there that staffers saw the faded letters of the Yamagishis' name on his collar.

The family was soon contacted and reunited with their long lost cat. No one is quite sure how Suika survived for three years, but a bell on his collar suggests someone had been ensuring that his needs were met.
