U2 frontman Bono was recently involved in a terrible bicycle accident. Now, the injuries he encountered from that crash have been made public.

He had to undergo a 5-hour long reconstructive surgery, as the accident left with him three fractures of his shoulder blade and an additional fracture of his humerus bone on the left side. The latter was said to be a very serious injury, as not only did the bone rip through his skin, it shattered in 6 places.

Dean Lorich who is an orthopedic trauma surgeon further elaborated “Bono was taken emergently to the operating room...where the elbow was washed out and debrided, a nerve trapped in the break was moved and the bone was repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws.”

Just one day after that procedure, the 54-year-old singer underwent surgery on his left hand to repair a fractured a pinky finger. In addition to those injuries, Bono also suffered from a facial fracture.

As part of the healing process, intensive therapy will be needed however doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

The accident occurred on Sunday, when Bono was riding his bicycle through New York’s Central Park. The spill occurred after Bono attempted to avoid hitting another cyclist.
