Seoul Arts Center (SAC), which opened its doors in 1988, is one of the top ten art centers in the world. SAC welcomes endless streams of visitors, who go there simply to escape the hustle and bustle of the city or to enjoy the operas, musicals, plays and dance performances that are held there. The President of this first and foremost arts complex of Korea is Ko Hak-chan, who envisions a world where everyone can appreciate the arts without any constraints.
Ko Hak-chan has had diverse career experiences, with 25 types of jobs including a television director, writer, professor, lyricist and bartender on his resume. As a versatile and broad-minded professional, he has made innovative changes at SAC as its 14th President. His efforts to better accommodate the staff and the users have been met with praise.
In addition to making business decisions, he is also contributing to the advancement of SAC by creating new contents and implementing user-oriented projects. For instance, he has written a script for an animation film about the reunification of Korea, and he also initiated a project to give better access to the arts to those living in remote areas. As part of his efforts to create a world where everyone can appreciate the arts without any constraints, he started the SAC on Screen program to film the performances held at SAC to be shown in theaters throughout the country. Also, he has been organizing free concerts with performances of children's songs and Korean classical songs to help ordinary people develop an appreciation for classical music.
Join us on The INNERview this week to meet Ko Hak-chan who’s contributing to the development and popularization of various types of the arts.
