Police officers vacated their positions outside the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where they had been stationed for several years as part of round-the-clock surveillance intended to capture Julian Assange, the founder of whistleblowing website Wikileaks. The activist has lived in the embassy since June 2012 when he was granted diplomatic asylum by Ecuador. The 42-year-old fears extradition to Sweden by the British government under an outstanding European Arrest Warrant that relates to an alleged sexual assault in Stockholm in 2010.
