Aug 13, 2016 – RIO DE JANEIRO—The international track and field federation has withdrawn the eligibility of Russia’s lone track athlete at these Olympics, furthering a dramatic and prolonged legal battle over the past several months in the wake of revelations of state-sponsored doping in Russia.
The International Association of Athletics Federations said Saturday it has revoked the eligibility of Darya Klishina, a U.S.-based long jumper for Russia, who was the nation’s lone athlete to successfully appeal a ban of the entire nation’s track team from these Games.

A spokesman for the IAAF, Yannis Nikolaou, said the organization received “new information” regarding Klishina last week and immediately notified the athlete it would suspend her entry. Klishina is now appealing that decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Nikolaou declined to elaborate on the substance of the information or from where it was received, and said it isn’t yet known when the appeal will be heard, except that it is likely to be in the next two days.

A representative for the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which adjudicates global disputes in sports, confirmed Klishina’s appeal.
