This woman is teaching self-defense to fellow Muslims who wear the Hijab. Hate crimes against Muslims have increased since Trump was elected president. Zaineb Abdullah says that the day after the election, people were calling her, asking if she knew specific self-defense techniques that would be helpful against bigoted attacks. For a Muslim woman, that means defense against someone trying to grab your scarf. Abdullah gives self-defense classes to women as part of her non-profit organization, Deaf Planet Soul. She says that she then connected with Misho Ceko of Chicago MMA and developed the moves. The very next day, they had their first crime survival seminar series. She posted a self-defense video on social media, and it went viral with over 3.6M views and 58K shares. With these moves, women can now fight back against hate. “This is a guaranteed right in this country that we have to wear a scarf,” says Abdullah, “And no one has the right to take it away.” Damn straight.
