Some people worry about their wedding proposals not going as planned. But this story is just a straight-up nightmare. In New York City this weekend, a man got down on one knee and proposed to his new fiancée, only to lose the ring down one of Times Square’s sidewalk grates shortly after. According to the “New York Times,” the couple, who were visiting from England, hailed down the NYPD immediately after for help.

After calling on the NYPD, the police department sent out a number of people– including the Emergency Service Unit, and Special Operation officers. The next morning, the ring was retrieved, but the couple was nowhere to be found. Of course, their emotional roller coaster of a story has become a viral sensation.
