Despite Election Commission's strict rules and diktats, parties in Gujarat have fielded candidates with criminal records. BJP has 22 such candidates, the Congress party has 27 such candidates and the GPP has 21 candidates with criminal pasts. Amongst one of the top candidates from major political parties who have declared serious criminal cases of murder, kidnapping and theft against them are, Vasava Chhotubhai Amarsinh of JD(U) from Jhagadia constituency. He has declared nine cases related to dacoity, seven charges related to theft and three related to murder.
