The Congress' gamble of winning over Telangana by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh is coming unstuck with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which spearheaded the movement for separate statehood, appearing to have second thoughts on its promise of merging with the national party.
The TRS, which had in the past said it would merge with Congress if statehood is granted to Telangana by the UPA government at the Centre, is now in rethink mode, particularly after opinion polls showed that it would sweep most of the seats in the region.
