Jean-Eric Vergne has won the ABB FIA Formula E Championship title in New York City becoming the all-electric series’ first ever double-champion. The Frenchman recovered from a disastrous first day in the season finale double-header to finish seventh in the second race and secure the points he needed to defend his title as Envision Virgin Racing’s Robin Frijns took the chequered flag in front of BMW i Andretti Motorsport driver Alex Sims and Nissan e.dams’ Sebastien Buemi.
The result meant DS Techeetah took the Teams’ Championship to avoid a repeat of Season 4 where their 30-point lead was overturned by Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler in New York – the German giant having to settle for second place
