Afyonkarahisar is located in the Aegean Region and its neighbours are Eskişehir, Kütahya, Uşak, Konya, Isparta, Denizli ve Burdur.

Afyon is a very rich city in terms of culture and historical marks. Anatolia was homeland for a lot of different civilisations and this directly effects Afyon. That’s why Afyon became also homeland this kind of essential and old civilisations. Let’s make a journey to those days and check them out!
When we check these civilisations, Hittities, Phrygians, Lydia s and Persians ruled in Afyon rone by one. After that, Alexander the Great ruled here just like in whole Mesopotamia. After Alexander the Great, Afyon was included in the Pergamo Kingdom.

Then, when Turks came into Anatolia, Karaşar Turks was placed in Afyon with the lands around it by Mesut the Sultan and this area started to be called as “Karahisar”.

Karahisar city was lost after crusades the Ist but Alaaddin Keykubat won the city later. After Germiyans, Ottoman Empire ruled Afyon.
