कथक सम्राट नर्तक पंडित बिरजू महाराज का हृदयाघात से निधन हो गया। पद्म विभूषण से सम्मानित 83 वर्षीय बिरजू महाराज ने रविवार-सोमवार की दरमियानी रात दिल्ली में अंतिम सांस ली। बिरजू महाराज के निधन की खबर से संगीत प्रेमियों में शोक की लहर छा गई। बीती रात पोते के साथ खेल रहे थे तभी अचेत हुए बताया जा रहा है कि बिरजू महाराज कल देर रात अपने पोते के साथ खेल रहे थे तभी उनकी तबीयत खराब हो गई और वे अचेत हो गए। उन्हें तुरंत साकेत के अस्पताल में ले जाया गया जहां डॉक्टरों ने उन्हें मृत घोषित कर दिया। उनके परिजनों ने बताया कि कुछ दिन पहले ही महाराज को गुर्दे की बीमारी का पता चला था। उनका इलाज चल रहा था। गायक मालिनी अवस्थी और अदनान सामी समेत कला, फिल्म व संगीत जगत की तमाम हस्तियों ने उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि दी है।
