The theme of 3 Idiots has been the philosophy of Vinod Chopra Films since its inception.<br /><br />Vidhu Vinod Chopra studied film making at the Film & Television Institute, Pune. His first documentary, An Encounter With Faces, highlighted the plight of India’s destitute children. It was nominated for an Oscar in the Documentary Short Subject category in 1978. <br /><br />Since then, Vinod has directed films like Khamosh, Parinda, 1942 – A Love Story, Mission Kashmir and Eklavya – The Royal Guard. Of these, Parinda and Eklavya – The Royal Guard were nominated as India’s official entries to the Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category in 1989 and 2007 respectively. <br /><br />Vinod Chopra Films has won national and international recognition for several of its films. The last release, 3 Idiots, has become India’s biggest worldwide box office performer in history, whose B.O. collections rank higher than those of the second and third ranked films combined. Apart from the traditional market for Indian films, 3 Idiots has done historic business even in non-traditional secondary markets, such as Taiwan and Korea, where the universality of the film’s message has become a rage with the local audiences. <br /><br />Forthcoming films from Vinod Chopra Films include the next installment in the Munna Bhai series to be directed by Rajkumar Hirani, debutante director Rajesh Mapuskar’s heartwarming father-son story, Ferrari Ki Sawaari, and Chithiyaan, a classic young love story to be directed by Tanuja Chandra. <br /><br />Vidhu Vinod Chopra commences planning and pre-production work on the banner’s first mainstream English language feature, Broken Horses, in March 2011. The film is expected to commence lensing in summer 2012.
