U.S. stocks climbed on Tuesday after earnings from Chrysler Group LLC, Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE: S), Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE), Aetna Inc (NYSE: AET), Mosaic Co (NYSE: MOS), Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE: HLF) and more. As of 9:56 a.m. Eastern, the Dow Jones industrial average gained 44.03 points, or 0.28 percent, to 15,566.00. The S&P 500 Index rose 4.50 points, or 0.27 percent, to 1,689.75. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 12.98 points, or 0.36 percent, to 3,611.62.
Aetna Inc (NYSE: AET) reported better-than-expected second-quarter earnings as net income rose to $536 million, or $1.49 per share, from $457.6 million, or $1.32 per share a year earlier.
