Barcelona earned their sixteenth title in five years, the first of Gerardo Martino's new era as the club's manager, on Wednesday after a hard-fought match against Atletico de Madrid in the Super Cup final. br br The match was dense, with few goal scoring opportunities and a subdued crowd. Atletico de Madrid managed to shut down Barça's attack throughout the game but was ultimately unable to capitalize. br br The Catalan club kicked-off the match with an impressive offence but was met with Diego Simeone's strategic lockdown which kept the them away from Atletico goalie Courtois for most of the match. br br Barça had the possession for most of the game but was unable to do anything with the ball do to Atletico's effective defence.
