Redbreast butterfly mud puddling in Siro, Arunachal Pradesh.br br These butterflies are fairly common, are approx. 110-130 mm. large and are scientifically known as Princeps alcmenor.br br This butterfly can be mistaken for a Great Mormon in flight. Visits various species of flowers and also moist earth and salt patches.br br Very rare and spectacular species of butterflies can be spotted in the even more spectacular Ziro valley. It is here that the extremely rare Bhutan Glory was spotted in Talley Valley reserve, some 40 odd kms away from the main valley. This huge butterfly was seen in a Bison salt lick near a stream in Siro Village.br br Ziro is situated in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, 167 kms from the capital Itanagar. It can be reached via road from Guwahati or Dibrugarh towns in Assam. br br Just 167km from the capital, Itanagar, Ziro is one of the oldest towns in Arunachal Pradesh. Situated in a valley, it is at a height of over 5500 feet above sea level, with a beautiful view of the mountains that surround it.br br Ziro is primarily home to the Apatanis -- simple, friendly and hospitable people with an interesting culture and legacy. They are a non-nomadic, agrarian tribe who share a responsible relationship with nature. Apatanis cultivate permanent wet land cultivations instead of dry land cultivations which involves burning forests. Ziro valley is lush with paddy farms and is known for its unique paddy cum fi sh cultivation where using traditional irrigation methods, farmers rear fish in the knee-deep water.
