Originally published on September 7, 2013 br br A Swedish city is migrating three kilometres east due to fracturing and deformation caused by the iron ore mines underneath it.br br In order to extract more iron ore from the valuable mineral deposit, the state-controlled mining company Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB has dug deeper into Mount Kiirunavaara, which neighbours the mining town of Kiruna.br br This has led to the fracturing and deformation of the land beneath the town and forcing the entire town to move three kilometres east over the next two decades.br br Kiruna is located 145 kilometres above the Arctic Circle and is home to the world's largest iron ore mine.br br --------------------------------------------------------br br TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
