Chile and Argentina have ordered some 3,000 residents to evacuate the area near the Copahue volcano in the south on their shared border. Authorities in both countries issued a red alert, predicting that the Copahue volcano could erupt imminently. The volcano has seen increasing seismic activity in recent weeks but has not erupted yet. Chile also issued a red alert last December after Copahue began spewing ash and gas.
