Find the best financial services for you at: SMARTFINANCESOLUTIONS.NET - Help me brainstorm ways to break free from my ex financially? - My husband and I have been separated since February, and it's definitely over. We haven't put in divorce papers yet, but we have them, and are working on filling them out. The problem is, we are still financially tied to each other. We bought a house, and we can't sell it with the economy the way it is. We have debts that we can't pay off until we sell the house (once the market goes back up, we'll be able to get more than enough to pay off our debts). We're both willing to stay roommates, and we get along well enough most of the time...but I want to move on. I can't imagine dating and feeling free with my life as long as he's still in the next bedroom. br br Some of our ideas were: br br Rent out the house (but we couldn't get enough in rent to cover all our debts, and can't afford to pay our debts along with maintaining two separate households) br br Sell the house and split the remaining debts (but again, we can't afford to pay any additional debt and maintain two separate households...neither of us makes much money, but we love what we do and aren't willing to change careers...not like we could right now anyway, no one's hiring) br br Getting roommates so that one of us can move out (this might work for him, but roommates are unreliable, and I had a hard time finding a full time job when we were considering this option, so we scrapped it...if he moved out, I wouldn't be able to pay my part of the bills because I only work part time, and there are no full time jobs available right now) br br Any other suggestions? I just wonder if I'm missing something. I've also been considering bankruptcy lately, but I know with the new bankruptcy laws, we'll still have to pay back some of our debt. It's scary, I feel trapped. We were doing pretty well before the economy went to heck (not to mention our marriage). Now we barely scrape by, and there's no end in sight.
