Metal-on-metal hip implants can lead to inflammation of the joint lining long before symptoms appear. Now a study by researchers from the Hospital for Special Surgery, indicates that magnetic resonance imaging can be used to identify this inflammation. Appearing in the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, the study suggests that MRI can be used to identify implants that are going to fail before symptoms show.
