MC SOOM T a grandi dans les rues violentes du quartier Maryhill de Glasgow, ou elle a été témoin d'innombrables injustices sociales durant sa jeunesse. br A l'âge de 15 ans elle fonde le groupe Y Network, qui se présente comme un mouvement politique composé de jeunes des quartiers de Glasgow décidés à traiter directement avec les élus locaux sur les questions sociales, d'éducation, de santé, d'environnement etc. br Après plusieurs années d'implication, elle se rend a l'évidence : faire évoluer la situation dans le cadre politique conventionnel est une tache quasi impossible... br SOOM T décide de se tourner vers la musique et d'utiliser sa voix pour faire passer son message politique et social. br br De 1997 à 2000 elle s'investit dans l'animation des soirées underground, raves, et sound systems a travers toute l'Ecosse, elle chante aussi dans plusieurs groupes allant du hip hop à la techno en passant par le reggae. br br En 2005 SOOM T a reçu le BBC Fame Academy Music Bursary pour l'ensemble de sa carrière. En Novembre 2006 elle reçoit le prix PRS Atom Award. Elle a enregistré de nombreuses sessions live pour la BBC et d'autres radios européennes. br br disrupt ----------- br br After a few years of experimenting around with the most different equipment br and styles (from Gabba over Digital Hardcore to Techno and Electronica) disrupt br finally discovered Dub as the one universal way of music. From the lack of money br came the idea of producing own Dub music with the obvious (and back then also the br only) tool at hand - a cheap laptop. br br The first attempts on tracks in this veine were released in May 2004 on the br highly recommended PHONOCAKE netlabel as the 'A Fistful Of Dub'-EP. This br release turned out to become a small surprise hit which gave enough motivation br to pursue the whole thing further on and eventually start the JAHTARI label br together with Rootah in Nov 2004. br br Since 2007 a heap of vinyl releases followed: releases om WERK, Scotch Bonnett br and Police In Helicopter, two solo LPs, many EPs and 7"s (alongside Maffi) - br and an album with Soom T which took the two of them touring around the globe br over the last two years. br br Right now disrupt is heavily getting into building his own music gear DIY style br (like this baby over HERE) to see what real voltage and old-school microchips can br do to Dub and Reggae in an otherwise over-digitalized age.
