French Admiral says security in Bangui improving

Soldiers search for weapons in the ravaged capital of the Central African Republic.br br French troops are trying to secure Bangui....and end the violence that has seen about one million people flee their homes.br br Despite their efforts, residents are still packing up and leaving.br br But French army chief of staff, Edouard Guillaud, says the security situation has improved.br br (SOUNDBITE)(French) EDWARD GUILLAUD, ADMIRAL AND FRENCH FORCES CHIEF OF STAFF, SAYING:br br "Our evaluation of the situation is that we are on a positive streak, it's not over yet, we haven't yet won, but we are in the process of getting back security to Bangui."br br Despite the peacekeepers, the country is being torn apart by intercommunal violence since mainly Muslim rebels seized power in March.br br At least 2,000 people are believed to have died since fighters withdrew from the capital last month.
