U.S. diplomat's conversation about Ukraine leaked on Internet

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland met Thursday with Ukraine's president about anti-government protests that have swept the former Soviet republic since November. But it's a private conversation the State Department official had that is making news.br br Audio posted on YouTube reveals a frank exchange between Nuland and the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine about efforts to resolve the ongoing political crisis. And Nuland can be heard making a crude swipe at the European Union for not doing more.br br (SOUNDBITE) JEN PSAKI, STATE DEPARTMENT SPOKESWOMAN SAYING:br br "She has been in contact with her EU counterparts, and of course has apologized."br br In the recording, Nuland is heard telling Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt she doesn't think main opposition leader Vitaly Klitschko could effectively lead a new government.br br The leaked conversation will likely fuel Russian accusations that the West is meddling in Ukraine.
