PAKISTAN - Fighting for women's rights in Swat Valley

pIn Swat Valley, a former stronghold of the Taliban in Pakistan, a group of women are taking certain legal matters into their own hands. In this fiercly patriarchal society, disputes are traditionally resolved by a meeting of elders, and that means men. This parallel justice system is known as the jirga. Until now, it was always a male-only domain, and in some cases such as honour killings, women's rights were ignored.
