STORY: French designer Jean Paul Gaultier said on Tuesday (April 8) that based on his experiences as a young man in Britain in the 1970s, the stereotype that the British are skittish about sex is untrue.

"It was a lot of marvellous memories, clubs and the sexual life in London," Gaultier, known as an "enfant terrible" of the fashion world, said at the opening of an exhibition of his work at the Barbican arts complex in London.

"Which in reality is 'no sex' apparently which is not true, there was truly a lot of (sex) and we also love the English for that!" he said.

The exhibition, "The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier", which runs until August, celebrates his work with a moving catwalk and 165 of Gaultier's designs.
