Blackburn Rovers have appointed ex-Chelsea coach Paul Clement as assistant head coach to Steve Kean.

Clement, part of Carlo Ancelotti's team at Stamford Bridge, replaces John Jensen who left the club last month.

The appointment would appear to strengthen the position of Kean who has faced calls to resign from some fans.

Clement, 39, said: "I'm excited to be here at a big club like Blackburn Rovers and am really looking forward to the challenge."

The length of Clement's contract has not yet been revealed.

Kean and Clement worked together at Fulham, and have been reunited ahead of Blackburn's game at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday with Rovers second bottom of the Premier League.

"It's great to be linking up with Steve again and I can't wait to get started," Clement said.

Kean added: "I'm delighted that Paul has agreed to join us. He is someone I know well and respect as a coach and will be on the bench with me at QPR."

Clement has had two spells at Chelsea, spent seven years at Fulham and had three years as the Republic of Ireland's Under-21 coach.

Kean has come under increasing pressure after one win from seven Premier League games this season.

The Blackburn squad spent last week in India on a tour of their owner Venky's homeland.

Despite a group of fans planning another protest against Kean for the Tottenham game on 23 October, the manager was backed during the trip by the family behind the poultry and pharmaceuticals firm.
