Thomas Vaughan Jones - Spring Song

Thomas Vaughan Jones - Spring Song

The end of saving daylight hours br The sound of starlings on the wing br The nodding heads of yellow flowers br This is the bright new song of Spring. br br Those birds that sing at break of day br The robin with his breast so red br I only wish they’d go away br Before I shoot the whole flock dead br br The gentle sun shines down so bright br To warm the earth and hidden seed br And to the gardener’s ‘delight’ br It quickens the pernicious weed. br br I know that once that sun comes out br My life becomes eternal toil br There’s not a shadow of a doubt br I’ll have to double dig the soil. br br This sombre mood won’t go away br For certain things must come to pass br And long before the buds of May br I’m out there cutting endless grass. br br This time of year was meant for youth br That Love’s sweet song may sweetly sing br But if you want to know the truth br I absolutely hate the Spring.
