Thomas Vaughan Jones - Ambitions

Thomas Vaughan Jones - Ambitions

Come friends come fellow poets; br No matter what your station or your age br Monarch, peasant, peer or politician. br All who aspire to write upon this page; br what common thread aligns each life’s ambition? br br Ambitions change! br For in the callow innocence of youth br we prize our immortality br and Truth. br br But time expands and then erodes br that bright veneer. br We seek our fame and fortune. br Perhaps another’s heart. br The essence of a promising career, br while in our space the world will still revolve. br Eventually, ambitions must resolve; br Then must we turn our mortal tools away. br br Poets and Kings br must face approaching night, br and all would wish before the fading light br that we might find some words br in dark December; br br That someday, somewhere, br someone might remember.
