William Soutar - The Halted Moment

William Soutar - The Halted Moment

Wha hasna turn'd inby a sunny street br And fund alang its length nae folk were there; br And heard his step fa' steadily and clear br Nor wauken ocht but schedows at his feet. br Shuther to shuther in the reemlin heat br The houses seem'd to hearken and to stare; br But a' were doverin whaur they stude and were br Like wa's ayont the echo o' time's beat. br Wha hasna thocht whan atween stanes sae still, br That had been biggit up for busyness, br He has come wanderin into a place br Lost, and forgotten, and unchangeable; br And thocht the far-off traffic sounds to be br The weary waters o' mortality.
