Lamar Ingraham, Sr. - Welcome Worn Out

To think my welcome has worn out br In the only place I have called home: br The police told me that I must go about br From the one city in which I had grown. br br Listen here, I was born here, br Raised not too far down the street; br Liberty City in my heart, so it’s no fear br Pumping blood of triumph, never defeat; br My eyes filled with hope and pride, br When I noticed heritage and wealth; br This city is home beyond any to reside br As I fight for liberty everywhere else. br br To think my welcome has worn out br In the only place I have called home: br The police told me that I must go about br From the one city in which I had grown. br br I was born a few years back at Northshore, br To two newlyweds struggling on a daily basis; br Both were striving in the city to provide more br For the children brought in a world so racist; br Now, the police always harassed me as a kid br But I am a veteran now and educated too br And I spend a vacation here then get arrested, br The police tried Jim Crow without rights to view. br br To think my welcome has worn out br In the only place I have called home: br The police told me that I must go about br From the one city in which I had grown. br br I don’t drink, br I don’t get high, br So I think br It had to be what I drive. br br I don’t traffic, br I don’t solicit, br So very tragic, br Police abhor me for a visit. br br Stupid how things never changed, br Even I did for my son and nation, br But the police always know my name, br No matter what goo I do I am a situation. br br My welcome was gone, br The moment I arrived home.br br Lamar Ingraham, Sr.
