sheena blackhall - Tutankhamun

sheena blackhall - Tutankhamun

Am I a disappointment? br I would hate to short-change my public. br br Nonentity, nobody, groupie – br Are you hoping that my celebrity br Will transform you? br br I am a single corridor away br Only a few steps down from the blazing light br Not too taxing, I hope? br I am the ultimate peep-show br The great un-dead br A cheap thrill. br br Pagh! The stench of your sweat br The fungus of your breath br Lies heavy on me. br br I am wearing my golden mask br But where is my black resin scarab? br My gold hands holding painted crook and flail? br My golden ba-bird? Serpent amulet? br My falcon collar? br Where is my dagger? My beadwork? br My finger rings? My bracelet with the rich cornelian swallow? br Where are my woven sandals? My linen headdress? br br Before my door was forced br My dreams were fragrant. br Carriages I had br And the love of queens. br br Now they have peeled and cracked my fragile world br Like rotten fruit. br Once slaves bowed down like wheat. br Men rose and fell like dust, at my command. br Now, I am the dust.
