Irrational, I'm called irrational br For loving too much with little return br For not moving on when my heart does burn br But, when all's said and done, what's rational? br br Is it the absence of all emotion? br Not chasing love with reckless abandon? br Or leaping not knowing what I'll land in? br And not letting my heart cause commotion? br br Is it choosing a path for logic's sake br While abandoning all romantic thought? br Thinking ten steps ahead while feeling not? br Are feelings a risk I just shouldn't take? br br Irrational, I might very well be br But, life without love is simply not me br br Love's irrational in so many ways br And it's love that makes me do what I do br And say what I say and oft makes me blue br Yet, just as often, it sets me ablaze br br Oh, how irrational lovers must seem br To the man who doesn't know how to feel br It must appear odd to see someone kneel br As that someone's heart's been ripped at the seam br br Judge forth you logical experts on high br Shake your swollen heads, click your sharpened teeth br Render your verdict to me, here beneath br Oh, and of course, fail not to roll your eyes br br Because, irrational, I might well be br But, life without love is simply not me br br So, I will go on dreaming of a day br When my wife and I will walk hand in hand br Down the greened hill and on to the white sand br Yes, I will dream of a life lived that way br br And, I'll love others without condition br Not expecting in kind that which I give br Pouring forth my love like a broken sieve br Giving my all will become my mission br br And, someday when I'm old I look and find br I'm alone, without a wife by my side br At least I'll know that my love never died br I may die alone, but I won't die blind br br And, I'll be known as irrational me br But, my life without love, just couldn't be br br br (August 13th, 2011)br br Danny Speicherbr br
